Wallet and keys
Updated
Your Runtiler wallet is yours, not ours. How to export its private key, how to keep it safe, and what happens if you lose your sign-in.
On this page
When you sign up, Runtiler creates a wallet for you through Privy, a wallet provider. It is non-custodial: the USDC in it is yours, and Runtiler doesn't hold it. Your balance, purchases, rewards and withdrawals all go through this one wallet, on Polygon.
What non-custodial means for you
The only thing Runtiler's systems can do with your wallet is pay for a challenge you buy, into Runtiler's vault. They can't send your USDC anywhere else: every withdrawal is yours to sign. Rewards, refunds and creator earnings are paid into the same wallet.
Exporting your private key
The private key is what controls the wallet. With it, you can open the same wallet, and its funds, in any wallet app that supports Polygon, without Runtiler.
To see it, go to Settings, then Account, and tap export next to Export private key. You're asked to confirm first. The key opens in a secure Privy window. Runtiler never sees it.
You don't need the key to use Runtiler. Exporting it is a backup, for you alone.
Keep it safe
Anyone with this key can take your funds, and no one can get them back.
- Keep a copy somewhere offline, such as on paper.
- Never share it, and never paste it into a website, a chat or a form.
- Runtiler support will never ask for your private key or a recovery phrase. If anyone does, it is a scam, even if they say they are from Runtiler.
Your sign-in is your wallet
Your Runtiler account, and the wallet in it, belong to the way you sign in: an email address (with a one-time code), a Google account, or an external wallet. Always sign in the same way you signed up. A different email address, Google account or wallet is a different sign-in, with its own account and wallet.
Anyone who can sign in as you can use your wallet, so keep your email, Google account or wallet secure.
If you lose access to your sign-in
If you can't get into your email or Google account any more, recover it with that provider first: it is what signs you in to Runtiler. If you sign in with an external wallet, you need that wallet.
If you exported your private key, you can still reach your funds with it in a wallet app. Without your sign-in or your key, Runtiler can't move the funds for you, because the wallet isn't Runtiler's. That is why a saved copy of your key is a good habit.
