How a challenge works
Updated
The whole life of a challenge account: buying it, passing its steps, getting funded, claiming rewards, and what can end it.
On this page
A challenge is a set of rules and a simulated account to trade under them. Here is the life of an account, from buying it to being paid.
You buy it and get an account
When your payment goes through, your account opens at the challenge's full size, for example $10,000, with its own number, such as #1234. You find it under My challenges and in the terminal at /trade. Its rules are the ones you bought, and they never change after.
Steps
A challenge has 1, 2 or 3 steps, or none: an instant challenge is funded from day one. Each step has a profit target, a % of the account size.
Every step also has limits. All have a max loss. A challenge may add a daily loss limit, a minimum of trading days, a time limit or a consistency rule.
Passing a step
You pass a step when you close a trade that leaves nothing open, with your balance at or above the target and every other rule met.
Open profit can still turn around, so a step counts only closed profit. If your open trades take you past the target, close them: the step passes on the close that leaves you flat, as long as the balance is still at or above the target.
The next step starts fresh
Each new step starts again at the full size, and its target counts from there. Your trading days, best day and max loss floor start over from there. Pending orders are cancelled when you pass, so place them again if you still want them.
Funded
After the last step the account is funded, and it starts again at the full size. The max loss and any daily limit still apply. There is no time limit, and a funded account never expires for being inactive.
Claiming rewards
Once funded, you keep the challenge's reward split of every gain above the starting size. To claim, close every trade and wait for the claim window to open: any time, weekly or every 2 weeks, as the challenge says. Your reward also needs to reach the challenge's minimum claim.
A claim is checked in seconds and, if nothing is flagged, paid at once in USDC to your Runtiler wallet. The account then goes back to its starting size, stays funded, and you keep trading. See Claiming a reward.
A worked example
A $10K 2-step challenge with targets of 8% and 5%, a fixed 8% max loss and an 80% reward split:
| Stage | Starts at | Passes or claims at | Ends at |
|---|---|---|---|
| Step 1 | $10,000 | $10,800, nothing open | $9,200 equity |
| Step 2 | $10,000 | $10,500, nothing open | $9,200 equity |
| Funded | $10,000 | any gain above $10,000 | $9,200 equity |
Funded, you grow the balance to $11,000 and claim once the window is open. 80% of $1,000 is an $800 reward. The account goes back to $10,000 and you carry on.
What ends an account
An account ends if its equity reaches the max loss, if it reaches a daily limit set to end it, if a step's time limit runs out, if you get a refund, or if a claim is rejected. Rewards paid before are yours. See What ends an account.
Where to see your numbers
Every challenge's numbers are on its Rules tab: on the challenge page before you buy, and on your account after. What each rule means is the same in every challenge, and it is all in the rulebook.
