What ends an account

The few things that end a challenge account, what happens to your trades and rewards when one does, and what never ends it.
On this page
Losing an account is hard, and it is part of trading challenges. Here is exactly what can end an account, what happens next, and what never ends one.
What ends an account
Under the challenge's own rules:
- Max loss: your equity reaches the max loss floor. See Max loss.
- The daily loss limit, when the challenge sets it to end the account: your equity reaches the day's line. If it is set to pause instead, the account doesn't end, and trading resumes at 00:00 UTC. See Daily loss limit.
- The time limit, in an evaluation step: the step hasn't passed when its time runs out. See Time limits.
From outside the rules:
- A refund. When you get the price back, the account ends. See Refunds.
- A rejected claim. A flagged claim is reviewed by a person. If they find it broke a fair-play rule, such as copy or hedge trading, the claim isn't paid and the account ends. For copy or hedge trading, every account in the flagged group ends too. You see the reason in your Wallet. See Claim checks.
What happens to your trades
- Every open position closes at the live price. A position on a closed market closes at its last price.
- Every pending order is cancelled.
- You can't trade on the account any more. Its trades stay in its history.
Limits are checked on every price, so the close usually comes at about the line. A fast move, or a market that reopens with a gap, can close it beyond the line.
What stays yours
- Rewards paid before the account ended are yours.
- A claim you made before it ended is still checked and, if approved, paid in full.
- Your wallet balance isn't touched. It is separate from your challenge accounts.
What never ends an account
- Being inactive on a funded account. Funded and instant accounts never expire, so take a break whenever you need.
- Holding over the weekend or overnight. You pay the overnight fee. While a market is closed your position keeps its last price, and at the reopen it moves to the first price, like any other price.
- Trading the news.
- A pause from the daily limit, on challenges set to pause.
- A stop-out. At a 50% margin level your biggest losing position closes, and the account carries on.
- Being under your starting balance on a funded account. You keep trading, and you can claim again once you are back above it.
What you can do next
- Open the account to see what happened: it names the rule that was hit and the time, in UTC.
- If you think something went wrong, email support@runtiler.com with the account number.
- When you are ready, buy the same challenge again if it is still on sale, or pick another one. Why accounts fail has ideas for next time.
